Regulations on Attendance of International Students

In order to strengthen the teaching management, maintain the normal teaching order, to create a good learning atmosphere, according to the Regulations on Student Status of Undergraduate International Students of HYIT and HYIT Discipline and Punishment Criterion for International Students, these provisions are formulated.

Article 1 International students should consciously observe discipline, should not be absent without reason and must receive permission for any absence due to urgent business or sickness.

Article 2 The leave procedures are as follows:

(1) Except for emergency cases, sick leave permissions require a certification provided by the College hospital in advance. For a sick leave within one day, the students can let the monitor ask the class teacher for leave and report to the administrative teacher and fill in a leave paper. The administrative teacher may approve the sick leave no more than 7 days, and the students should fill in the application and submit the certificate of diagnosis of hospital. The principal of HYIT who is in charge of the management of overseas students may approve the sick leave over one week, on the basic agreement from the School of International Education, and the application should attach the certificate of diagnosis of hospital. International students who are absent from class without permission will be regarded as absenteeism.

(2) For a business leave, a written request is necessary. The request is valid after the approval of the International Student Management Division and temporary oral request is not allowed. For a business leave within one day, the students can let the monitor ask the class teacher for leave and report to the administrative teacherand fill in a leave paper. The School of International Education may approve the business leave of 2 to 7 days, and the student should fill in the application and submit the certificate. For a business leave of over one week, a written report shall be submitted to the School of International Education and approved by the principal of HYIT who is in charge of the management of overseas students for signature. International students who are absent from class without permission will be regarded as absenteeism.

Article 3 To ensure the normal teaching sequence, the international student who is late for class or leaves early three times is considered as truant.

Article 4 If an international student is absent with or without permission for an accumulated time of one third of the total teaching hours of any subject, he/she is not allowed to participate in the exam or make-up exam of that subject.

Article 5 If an international student is on sick leave or business leave for an accumulated time of 4 weeks in one semester; his/her studies should be suspended. The international student who is unable to study because of sickness or urgent business is allowed to suspend his studies if he/she has made a formal application. The longest period allowed for suspension is one year. If an international student does not return at the proper time, he/she is considered to have terminated his/her studies.

Article 6 The international students enjoy summer and winter vacations and Chinese national holidays. There are no other holidays (of international students own country) permitted. If the international students request to enjoy their big national holiday during the working day, the School of International Education will take the circumstances into consideration and decide whether agree or not. If the request is allowed, the international students will not be arranged to make up the missed lessons in their holidays.

Article 7 In one semester, international student who is absent from classes without permission or does not return to the College on time, or leaves school without permission before classes are officially over (including experiment classes, internship, curriculum design, and graduation project etc. Internship, course design and graduation design are counted as 5 hours a day.), he/she shall be subjected to the following punishments:

(1) Warning is given to those who are absent for 15 or more study-hours.

(2) Serious warning is given to those who are absent for 30 or more study-hours.

(3) Record demerit is given to those who are absent for 45 or more study-hours.

(4) Under observation is given to those who are absent for 60 or more study-hours.

(5) Expelled is given to those who are absent for 80 or more study-hours, or stay away from the school for 2 weeks without permission.

(6) The international student who ignores school regulations, absent from class, late, leave early very often without permission, destroys public property, fights with others etc., shall be criticized, warned, given demerits or placed under observation until he or she is dismissed.

(7) International student who is placed under observation by the College can regain normal status if he/she can correct his/her behavior and make great progress in his/her study within one year. Otherwise, the international student must return to his country of origin.

(8) Once the College makes the above decisions, the international student, the Embassy of his country of origin and his family will be notified in written form.

Article 8 If an international student travels outside Huai’an during vacations, he/she should register in Student Affairs Office and give notices the destinations and date of return etc.

Article 9 These regulations are applicable to students enrolled after year 2016, and School of International Education is responsible for interpretation of details.
