Regulations on Examination for International Students

These regulations are formulated under the guidance of Approaches to Dealing with Violation of Regularities in National Education Examinations, Regulations on Student Status of Undergraduate International Students of HYIT, and HYIT Rules on Students Examinations, for the purpose of maintaining the order of examinations (examination and assessment are generally referred to as examinations), enhancing the examination discipline, producing a fair, just and honest atmosphere and guaranteeing the students legal rights.

Article 1 These regulations shall apply to examinations of various forms arranged by the college for registered international students.

Article 2 Examination Requirements:

(1) Students who are qualified for the examination (examinees) should go to the examination place at the time arranged by the college. Disqualified students are not allowed for the examination.

(2) Examinees should obey the examination disciplines and accept the arrangement of the invigilators; communication devices such as mobile phones or electronic equipment are forbidden, unless for special needs.

(3) Examinees should enter the examination venue with valid certificates (student cards, passports) and examination qualification certificates (examination permits, make-up examination permits, course re-taking notices) and take their seats according to the examination seating plan for the invigilators check. Students without certificates or whose certificates are incomplete may not be allowed for the examination. Examinees who sit for written and computer-aided examinations should be seated according to the seating plan and requirements, and put the certificates on a certain place.

(4) Examinees should enter the examination venue orderly at the specified time. Examinees who sit for written or computer-aided examinations should arrive at the examination venue at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time of the examination and be seated in accordance with the seat assigned to them. Students will not be allowed to enter the examination venue 15 minutes after the examination begins without proper reasons and will be regarded as exam-absentees.

(5) Examinees are allowed to carry only necessary stationery and calculators without communication and memory functions, as well as the tools and materials permitted. If tools, materials or articles not permitted are carried into the examination venue, they should be placed at the designated area identified by the invigilators ahead of the commencement of examination. The invigilators are not responsible for keeping them; if the articles are lost or damaged, the examinees take the consequence themselves.

(6) Examinees should give answers with pen, ball-point pen, fountain pen or other designated writing tools in blue or black; designated pencils are used to fill the answer cards. Answers written on the scribbles are invalid.

(7) Examinees shall begin answering the test papers or operating the computer after the beginning signal of the examination. After the finishing signal, examinees ought to stop answering or operating. When the examination is over, examinees should put the test papers and answer sheets faced-down on the desk for the invigilators to collect and count before they can leave the examination venue. Examinees are not allowed to take away the test papers and answer sheets.

(8) Examinees should keep quiet throughout the examination and are not allowed to smoke. Examinees should raise their hands and inquiry the invigilators in a low voice if they have doubts about the test questions. Examinees are not allowed to whisper to each other, make gestures, give hints, peek, smuggle notes, copy others answers, or help others to copy, pass answers or notes, or exchange answer sheets.

(9) Examinees are not allowed to leave the venue during the examination. Examinees who need to leave should raise their hands to get permission from the invigilator before leaving. During the leave, examinees should not communicate or discuss with others, or consult any reference.

(10) Examinees who hand in their test papers earlier with permission of the invigilators should leave the examination venue immediately and be not allowed to stay at the venue and discuss with others. Examinees will not be allowed to return to the venue unless permitted.

(11) Examinees should not disturb the teachers grading the test papers and evaluating the results in any form but consult the results in the educational administration management system

Article 3 Any of the following cases is identified as violation of examination regulations:

(1) Bringing tools, materials or articles not permitted into the examination venue and not placing them in the designated area;

(2) Not taking the designated seats;

(3) Answering the test paper or operating the computer before the beginning signal or after the finishing signal of the examination;

(4) Smoking, making noises or other disruptive behaviors in the examination venue;

(5) Peeking, whispering with others, discussing with others, making signs or gestures, or exchanging stationery without permission;

(6) Leaving the examination venue without permission; damaging or taking away the materials distributed in the examination;

(7) Refusing or disturbing the invigilators on duty;

(8) Other minor behaviors violating the regulations.

Article 4 The following behaviors are regarded as seriously violating the regulations in examinations:

(1) Continuing to violate the regulations after being criticized by the invigilators;

(2) Deliberately disturbing the order at the examination venue and places of grading the test papers;

(3) Deliberately destroying the test papers, answer sheets and other materials;

(4) Other seriously violating behaviors, but which are not regarded as cheating.

Article 5 One of the following behaviors which seriously violates the fair, just and honest principle is regarded as cheating in the examination:

(1) Obtaining the test papers or answers ahead of the examination;

(2) Obtaining the examination qualification and results through false certificates, files or other materials;

(3) Smuggling materials related to the examination (except those materials permitted);

(4) Copying others answers or helping others to copy, or consulting the materials related to the examination;

(5) Grabbing or stealing others test papers, answer sheets or forcing others to give aid in copying;

(6) Passing, accepting or exchanging answers, test papers, answer sheets (cards), scribbles or materials related to the examination;

(7) Taking back the answer sheets for correction after handing them in without permission;

(8) Using any communication device such as a mobile phone, or using electronic equipment;

(9) Other cheating behaviors.

Article 6 Any of the following cases is identified as severe cheating at examination:

(1)  Cheating once more;

(2) Destroying evidence after cheating at examination; confronting, intimidating, hurting, insulting or slandering the invigilators or other examinees;

(3) Asking others to take the examination or taking the examination for others;

(4) Conspiring for group cheating at the examination;

(5) Other severe cheating behaviors.

Article 7 Dealing with Violations of Examination Regulations and Cheating at Examination

(1) For those violating the examination regulations, the invigilators should criticize and educate them, give verbal warning or change the seats;

(2) For those severely violating the regulations, cheating or severely cheating at examination, the invigilators are empowered to discontinue their exam, take back the test papers and exclude them from the exam hall;

(3) After the cases of violating the regulations or cheating happened, the invigilators should write down the facts in details on the examination recording form. All the invigilators should validate the facts, make signatures and turn in all the evidence and validating materials to School of International Education. The institute will deal with the cases according to HYIT Discipline and Punishment Criterion for International Students.

Article 8 Supplementary Provisions

(1) Examinations of special forms such as an open-book examination or an interview should be ministered according to these regulations and the supplementary requirements;

(2) Those national or provincial-level examinations held in HYIT should be carried out under the guidance of the relevant examination regulations released by higher-level government departments. Otherwise, they should conform to these regulations.

(3) These regulations are applicable to students enrolled after year 2016, and School of International Education is responsible for interpretation of details.
